Are you an experienced Infrastructure or Systems Engineer with a background in UK defence and MoD environments, ready to lead a technical team while remaining hands-on?
We’re looking for an IT Service Delivery Team Lead to lead a small team of engineers delivering and supporting secure IT systems for one of our key customer contracts.
This isn’t a traditional service-management role. You’ll combine technical leadership, people management and hands-on engineering, taking ownership of delivery while remaining close enough to the technology to troubleshoot complex problems, guide technical decisions and support the introduction of new capability.
Working across Windows infrastructure, networking, virtualised environments and secure systems, you’ll help ensure critical customer environments remain resilient, effective and well supported.
The role is based from our St Neots office and includes regular travel to UK customer sites, with occasional overseas travel and periods away from home depending on project requirements.
How you’ll support us
You’ll lead the day-to-day activity and development of a team of IT Service Delivery Engineers, providing the technical direction they need to deliver effectively.
You’ll prioritise work against customer requirements, timescales, resources and security considerations, while acting as a senior technical point of contact for key stakeholders.
You’ll also remain directly involved in delivery, whether troubleshooting a difficult infrastructure issue, supporting a system deployment, reviewing a technical approach or working with customers to understand their next challenge.
You’ll:
- Lead, line manage and develop a team of IT Service Delivery Engineers
- Take ownership of technical delivery across customer projects and services
- Plan and prioritise activity against risk, resource and customer requirements
- Lead the resolution of complex infrastructure, hardware, software and networking issues
- Provide technical escalation and 3rd line support
- Support the design, integration, implementation and maintenance of secure IT systems
- Monitor and maintain critical systems and networks
- Contribute to system design and solution architecture
- Maintain clear technical, support and procedural documentation
- Coach and mentor engineers, sharing good engineering practice across the team
The invaluable experience you’ll bring, to help us achieve more
You’ll already be an experienced, hands-on Infrastructure, Systems or IT Engineer with the technical breadth to guide others when problems become complex.
You’ll also have experience operating within the UK defence sector and MoD environment, giving you an understanding of the security, assurance and operational constraints that come with delivering technology in this setting.
You may already formally lead a team, or you might be a senior engineer who has naturally become the person others turn to for technical direction, mentoring and difficult decisions.
Essential experience
- Current UK Security Check (SC) clearance
- Experience delivering IT infrastructure within the UK defence sector, including supporting or working within MoD environments
- Strong experience with Windows Server, Windows Client, Active Directory and core domain services
- Good knowledge of networking, including firewalls, routers and switches
- Experience with virtualisation technologies such as VMware and/or Hyper-V
- Strong infrastructure troubleshooting and 3rd line support capability
- Experience with system design, integration and implementation
- Experience leading, mentoring or providing technical direction to other engineers
- Strong customer and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to prioritise technical work and make sound decisions around risk, security and delivery
- Willingness and eligibility to undertake Developed Vetting (DV) longer-term
Desirable experience
- Formal line management experience
- Direct experience working with MoD customers and stakeholders
- Experience supporting air-gapped, restricted or highly secure networks
- Current or previous DV clearance
- Knowledge of Secure by Design principles
- Project or technical delivery management experience
