Job Description
BUSINESS AREA DESCRIPTION:
Training Support (TS) is one of five business areas operating as a commercial P&L account within MASS. Training Support provides a broad range of training consultancy and support services to defence, civil authorities and the commercial sector.
 
JOB PURPOSE:  Provision of a Lessons Learned Support Capability to MoD(MB)/JW/PJHQ under the direction of the JWST Project Director and Project Manager (PM). Primary focus is supporting the MoD Head Office through close coordination with the relevant staffs. Key outputs are ensuring delivery of agreed deliverables to the agreed standard of quality within budget.
 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lessons Capability:
  • Provide a Lessons Support Capability function in support of the Project Director/ PM and MoD staffs to ensure effective delivery of required tasking.
  • As directed, support JWST Lessons reporting requirements to TSSP/MoD/MASS
  • Support the Lessons Process as agreed through the JWST PM and with the relevant MoD/PJHQ/JW Team Leader.
Client/stakeholder management
  • Flexible day-to-day response to meet customer’s capability requirements.
  • Negotiate changes to project support to meet customer requirements within budget and contractual obligations.
  • Expectation management to ensure customer is aware of limits of capability provision and tailors his requirements accordingly.
Business Development:
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities for business development.
  • Proactive and responsive to prospective and current client requirements.
  • Keeping abreast of issues affecting the TS and Lessons markets and collecting business intelligence.
  • Liaise with other Business Areas on Business Development opportunities as appropriate.
Other:
  • Undertake learning and development activities as agreed with line manager.
  • Exploit opportunities to keep up to date with area of expertise/profession for example, background reading, meetings with SMEs, attendance at seminars.
  • Undertake other duties and tasks that from time to time may be allocated to the job holder that are appropriate to the job.
  • Comply with all relevant internal rules, policy and procedures, including those relating to Health and Safety, Data Protection, Anti-Bribery and all those contained within the issued Employee Handbook.
Security:
  • As a member of TS you are to be aware of, and should adhere to, all the relevant Security rules applicable to the relevant project including application of the HMG Security Policy Framework including JSP 440 and the relevant Security Aspects Letter, Company policy, and the Business Management System across the Business.
  • You are to attend all relevant security briefs and to sign acknowledge that you have received and understand the respective rules and regulations
  • You are to ensure that any security incident involving government classified information is reported to the contracting Authority through the TS and/or MASS Security Officers.
  • As the NWD Sy Officer, understand and comply with the relevant MASS Say Officer ToRs (issued under separate cover)
MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
Education/Qualifications/Training:
  • Security clearance. DV or ability to gain DV essentail.
Specific Experience:
Required:
  • Experience of joint warfare.
  • Military service and staff experience (preferably Joint as opposed to single service) at SO2 level or above
Desired:
  • Previous service in a Lessons appointment.
  • Experience in the use of Defence Lessons Identified Management System (DLIMS)
Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:
  • Strong customer/stakeholder relationship management skills.
  • Capable of hands on problem-solving, with ability to generate ideas and solutions.
  • Ability to use own initiative.
  • Extremely well organised and with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team using excellent leadership and communications skills.
  • An effective and experienced people manager.
  • Strong communication skills, written, oral and presentational.
  • Computer literate. Experienced user of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products, particularly MS Project, Outlook, Excel, Word and Internet Explorer.
