Job Description

A technically capable Network engineer able to support manage and multiple networks and work in close partnership with both Windows and Solaris system administrators and architects.

Areas of Responsibility:

Technical input and ownership of configuration and support of network aspects of multiple LAN and WAN systems both physical and virtual.
Deep integration working within cross technology teams.
Follow (and provide input to) strict high assurance procedures.

Key Tasks:

Manage and administrate the network components of a number of separate systems.
Plan and lead project deployments to systems from a networking perspective.
Provide detailed advice and impact assessments to MoD and other Defence Contractors.
Compliance with version control procedures in order to deploy system changes. Produce and update documentation that can vary from high-level tick lists to deep technical build and install instructions and records. Attend and contribute to meetings that approve system changes to operational and development platforms.
Troubleshoot and resolve reported helpdesk issues.

Essential Experience:

In depth knowledge and experience of deploying, upgrading and updating LAN and WAN networks in support of Impact Level 6 systems.
In depth knowledge of networking and its interface with virtualisation and Cisco Routers and Switches on both LAN and WAN.
Deep architectural based knowledge of Windows Operating System network configuration and components.

Desired Experience:

In depth knowledge of networking and its interface with virtualisation on Solaris platforms.
Knowledge of Cisco (CCNA) system network configuration (Routing, VLANs, ACLs).
Understanding of integration challenges and solutions between Windows and non-Windows platforms (primarily Solaris).
Knowledge of Crypto concepts.
Knowledge of WAN optimisation products.
Knowledge of MoD provided WAN systems.
Understanding of PUPPET and/or other network configuration management toolsets.


Person Competencies:

Will be working as part of an integrated multi-technology team
Appreciation, acceptance and adherence to the constraints of working on highly classified defence platforms.
Successful applicants will be required to obtain Developed Vetting security clearance as part of this role.

The role is based in Wiltshire, but may involve travel both within and outside of UK
