Job Description

MASS are looking to welcome an experienced electronic technician to lead our small team providing in-hangar depth support to the NATO Joint Electronic Warfare Core Staff (NATO JEWCS) fleet of Electronic Warfare training assets. This role involves both hands-on and office based management work.

The successful applicant would be expected to undertake the following tasks:

  • Direct and supervise the work of the Base Support Section currently consisting of 6 technicians, assisting the team with hardware and software fault investigation as and when required.

  • Provide systems engineering expertise for the JEWCS Land, Maritime and airborne assets to ensure continued availability, utility and relevance of the NATO JEWCS training assets.

  • Act as one of the System Administrators for the training asset CIS and LAN equipment, undertaking the duties as detailed in the relevant equipment security documentation.

  • Maintain a good working knowledge of the latest developments electronics, embedded software systems & common RF components (pre-amps, filters, equalisers, mixers, HPA, couplers, modulators & attenuators) to assist in the calibration and fault diagnosis on JEWCS EW training assets.

  • Occasionally deploy to exercise locations or NATO platforms to support trials and evaluation of the operation and effectiveness of JEWCS training assets.

    Mandatory Qualifications / Skill Requirements

  • Educated to Level 4 / 5 in an engineering related subject and / or Professional Registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) (or equivalent). 

  • The individual must have a minimum of 5-years of experience in supervising a team responsible for the maintenance of radar, communications, avionics, weapon systems, ICT and / or Electronic Warfare systems.

  • Extensive hands-on experience as a technician in the radar/microwave, avionics, communications, weapon system and/or electronic warfare environment. The role requires a high degree of competency in working with RF sub-systems and associated test equipment (VNA, Spectrum Analyser, Power Meter, Frequency Counter and Synthesiser) and the ability to identify and rectify faults down to component level.

    The successful applicant would be expected to perform non-routine duties and be generally required to work with minimal supervision. They must be a mature and experienced technician capable of working independently; using professional judgement, technical knowledge, experience, and understanding of the needs of the organisation to select the best solutions to overcome software / hardware problems and implement changes in accordance with customer requirements.

    The successful applicant would be a well-motivated, pro-active individual with good communication and interpersonal skills.

    Desirable Skill Requirements

    In addition, the following qualifications and experience would be highly desirable:

  • MCTS Windows Configuration and MCITP Desktop Administrator. 

  • Microsoft Certified System Administrator. 

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).


  • ITIL Foundation. 

  • PRINCE 2 Foundation (or APM equivalent).  

The successful candidate will be required to hold,or be in a position to qualify for NATO Secret (NS) Security Clearance
