Job Description
 
MASS are looking to welcome a multi-skilled software / electronics technician to our team providing in-hangar depth support to the NATO Joint Electronic Warfare Core Staff (NATO JEWCS) fleet of Electronic Warfare training assets.
 
The successful applicant would be expected to undertake the following tasks:
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of the latest developments electronics, embedded software systems & common RF components (pre-amps, filters, equalisers, mixers, HPA, couplers, modulators & attenuators) to assist in the calibration and fault diagnosis on JEWCS EW training assets.
  • Act as the systems software subject matter expert providing software maintenance support in order to ensure the continued availability, utility and relevance of the NATO JEWCS EW training assets.
  • The maintenance and continued development of control and MMI (Man Machine Interface) software. Identifying software defined solutions to resolve hardware and software obsolescence issues and in order to deliver asset enhancement projects
  • Perform configuration management for JEWCS owned source code and other JEWCS bespoke EW application software
  • Assist the Base Support Technicians with software and hardware fault investigation
  • Occasionally deploy to exercise locations or NATO platforms to support trials and evaluation of the operation and effectiveness of JEWCS EW training assets.
Mandatory Skill Requirements
  • Applicants must have more than 5-years relevant experience of developing, integrating and maintaining systems software. Specifically, applicants should be able to demonstrate that they have the following experience and/or qualifications
  • Operating Systems – Linux & Windows 7 or above
  • National Instruments LabVIEW developer level or higher
  • Ability to read text based programming languages C and Python
  • Software Engineering Project Management Certified Professional
Additionally, the role requires an individual who has extensive hands-on experience as an electronic technician in an environment where they have gained a high degree of competency in working with RF sub-systems and associated test equipment (VNA, Spectrum Analyser, Power Meter, Frequency Counter and Synthesiser) and the ability to identify and rectify faults down to component level.
 
The successful applicant would be expected to perform non-routine duties and be generally required to work with minimal supervision. They must be a mature and experienced technician capable of working independently; using professional judgement, technical knowledge, experience, and understanding of the needs of the organisation to select the best solutions to overcome software / hardware problems and implement changes in accordance with customer requirements.
 
The successful applicant would be a well-motivated, pro-active individual with good communication and interpersonal skills.
 
Desirable Skill Requirements
 

In addition, the following experience would be highly desirable

  • Configuration control
  • Maintenance in a military environment
  • Evaluation and test of new EW/RF systems or components
  • Knowledge of PC communication buses
  • Knowledge of using traditional and software controlled radio equipment.

The successful candidate will be required to hold, or be in a position to qualify for NATO Secret (NS) Security Clearance.
